Een schoone schip: Waterfront Charters ‘Esperance’

Designed for exciting sailing, Esperance’s single hull is powered by the twin triangular mainsails that are rigged to her mainmasts, as well as a jib sail that adds to her manoeuvrability and overall performance.

Waterfront Charters are justifiably proud of their fleet of catamarans. The three twin-hulled vessels that sail under the Waterfront Charters flag provide a superb range of cruising options. Whether our guests are looking for a stable sailing adventure, a powered cruise along the coastline or a floating party-platform, we can make it happen with our characteristic magic.

But if it’s a true sailing experience you are looking for… look no further than our iconic schooner, Esperance. Schooners (the name is derived from the Dutch ‘schoone schip’, or ‘good-looking boat’ in the vernacular, to describe the clean lines of the vessel) are among the older marques of working vessels, having originally been designed and built in the late 1700’s. Our schooner Esperance is definitely ‘een schoone schip’, and her twin-masts and protruding bowsprit give her the looks of a predatory sea-creature. Designed for exciting sailing, Esperance’s single hull is powered by the twin triangular mainsails that are rigged to her mainmasts, as well as a jib sail that adds to her manoeuvrability and overall performance. A bowsprit? That’s the extended bow of the schooner, an ideal place to position yourself during an adventure; flying spindrift, seagulls and dolphins racing alongside the boat, sails crackling overhead…it doesn’t get any better.

Esperance has two large sunken seating areas beneath her sails, which can take up to 45 guests in comfort. There is also a covered saloon area for catering and, if required, a shelter for more delicate humans and this lends itself to charters: if you are looking for celebration with a difference, Esperance is the perfect vessel to offer a mix of true sea adventure and a safe platform to party on down. She is 16 metres in length (excluding the adventurous bowsprit) and handles all sailing conditions in the Atlantic Ocean with consummate ease and gracious aplomb. Her skipper crew are, as you would expect from Waterfront Charters, all experts, and will ensure not only excitement but great hospitality too.

Join us for either a scheduled cruise – a minimum of only four passengers is required – or charter Esperance for an occasion with a difference. Waterfront Charters will ensure that it’s plain sailing and great excitement for all aboard.
